  Armstrong World Industries has a terrific career opportunity for a Transportation Manager, Outbound & International to be located at our corporate headquarters in Lancaster, PA. This position is responsible for providing tactile day to day leadership for all activities related to outbound transportation services as well as providing consultation for related procurement events throughout the company. Our team of professionals plays a critical role in ensuring the company meets its purchasing goal which is to obtain the highest quality products and services, at the best cost to the company, in a timely manner and with the best service. Key Responsibilities:
Provides tactical procurement leadership and consultation for all outbound transportation services expenditures throughout the company.
Responsible for carrier sourcing, qualification, and implementation.
Responsible for $120M in spend.
Utilizes eProcurement tools to support cost reduction initiatives.
Provides procurement expertise for all outbound transportation projects.
Negotiates transportation pricing, discounts, terms, and contracts for all business units, leveraging purchasing power to obtain the best cost consistent with business requirements.
Negotiates international transportation pricing, terms, and contracts for all business units, leveraging purchasing power to obtain the best cost consistent with business requirements
Coordinates with Customer Order Service, Logistics, and Business Unit staff to select the best delivery mode for outbound customer and interplant shipments consistent with service requirements.
Provides consultation to all internal customers on carriers, market conditions, and their impact on our businesses.
Responsible for all outbound financial and carrier service performance metrics; implements corrective actions and improvement plans as needed.
Develops annual transportation budgets and prepares monthly budget bridge analysis.
Manages strategic carrier relationships and sourcing, leveraging across business units as appropriate.
Leads and/or participates in projects and process improvement efforts that have the potential to add the greatest value.
Coordinates activities and provides back up for the inbound transportation commodity manager.
Develops annual international freight budget factors for Finance
Prepares international monthly freight budget bridge analysis.
Works very closely with the Transportation Analyst team to address and manage day to day operational issues.
This position requires up to 15% travel.
 
   
  Requirements:
  Required Qualifications:
Bachelor degree in business, supply chain or related technical discipline or equivalent experience
Strong expertise in the procurement of transportation services
Minimum of 10 - 15 years of progressively responsible domestic transportation experience for a multi-plant environment
Strong financial analysis, negotiation and communication skills
Knowledge of supplier management and supplier improvement processes
Experience in supplier selection and performance measurement
Desired Qualifications:
Experience with multi-plant transportation management software
International transportation negotiation experience with steamship lines and NOVOCCs
Expertise in developing 3rd party warehousing services agreements
