I’m sure that many of your heard about the flooding in Nebraska. It’s easy to sit in our dry living rooms watching this tragedy on TV and quite another to live through something like this. Today I reached out to our friends at Werner and they shared with me some pictures and local news stories of the impact this flooding has had in their community and Werner in particular. They told me that all roads in and out of Omaha are closed. Obviously, this is affecting all trucking operations far beyond Nebraska. Werner has more than 7,000 trucks running throughout the US. Along with Werner, Crete Carrier in Nebraska and CRST in Iowa have also been severely affected.

Folks at Werner have taken in friends and family affected by the flooding. The Werner Lodge, while not flooded, has seen the road leading to the area washed out and debris everywhere. As is typical of many in the trucking and logistics industry, Werner has activated their Blue Brigade, an in-house volunteer corps, working with the Red Cross and Salvation Army to provide assistance to those affectedly directly by the flooding. “We’ll be deploying people across the city where we can”, Derek Leathers, CEO at Werner, said. “Floods are still here and it’s still unsafe to drive in affected areas.”

Current update is that it rained again yesterday and there is rain in the forecast for this weekend. While not verified, it has been heard that Valmont Industry and 3M workers went back to work yesterday. Both companies have plants in the Valley.
