On Aug. 14th, the United States Postal Service announced a temporary price increase which will take effect from October 18, 2020 – December 27, 2020. The increased rates target commercial domestic parcels, while retail prices and international products will not be affected. The following service levels will see rates increased for the stated period.
• Priority Mail Express
• Priority Mail
• First-Class Package Service
• Parcel Select
• Parcel Return Service
The temporary price adjustments come as a response to increased operating expenses and heightened demand of online shopping during the COVID-19 pandemic. It targets commercial volume and will be in line with competitive carriers without impacting customers at the retail level.
Some rate cells in Parcel Select Ground will be charged less than $0.40 so as not to exceed USPS Retail Ground retail prices.
• 19 lbs., zones 8/9 – the increase will be zero instead of $0.40
• 20 lbs., zones 8/9 – the increase will be $0.06 instead of $0.40
• Oversized – the increase will be zero instead of $0.40
