Sen. Ron
Wyden (D-OR), Chairman of the Senate Finance Committee, has announced he
is working with members of the tax-writing panel to come up with a plan by the
end of June to rescue the Highway Trust Fund (HTF). The chairman has asked
members to come back next week with revenue
ideas so the panel
can complete a bipartisan financing plan by the end of June.
The
Department of Transportation (DOT) has said without congressional action the
HTF will be insolvent by the end of August. State and federal officials have
warned a funding interruption would disrupt many construction projects and hurt
the economy.
